Contraception

At Amathea, we offer free advice on contraception and birth control. You can get help from a public health nurse or midwife to find the right contraception for you. We are a nationwide service for everyone and can also answer any questions you may have.

Contraceptive methods
There are many options for contraception, but only a condom will protect you against sexually transmitted diseases.
Different contraceptive methods:

  • Copper IUD
  • Hormonal coil
  • Contraceptive implant
  • Combined pill
  • Progestogen-only pill
  • Vaginal ring
  • Contraceptive patches
  • Contraceptive injections
  • Condoms

It is important to choose the type of contraception after you have received information on the appropriate use, possible side effects, and potential risks associated with each method.

Prescription?
Are you between the ages of 16 and 22? Then it pays to pick up the prescription ahead of time, as you can get all or part of the contraceptives covered. This applies until the month you turn 22. If you are older, you can pick up a prescription at the pharmacy or purchase contraceptives directly from Amathea and pay by Vipps. Are you under the age of 16? Then you must have a prescription from your GP or another doctor. Contraceptives are not generally free of charge for persons under the age of 16, although they may be free in certain municipalities.

nsertion of a coil or contraceptive implant:
At Amathea Bergen and Oslo, we offer free appointments for inserting, extracting or replacing a contraceptive implant or IUD. We can also check your IUD or coil. We also offer testing for sexually transmitted diseases when inserting an IUD.

We have a short waiting time.
