Talking together

In a challenging and unexpected situation, it can be difficult to communicate properly. Strong feelings, opinions and wishes may be involved when you are trying to communicate. This can make it difficult to listen and understand what the other person is trying to say.

It is not always easy to understand each other’s needs, wishes and expectations.

Participating in a session together can be very helpful, whether this involves an unplanned pregnancy, a decision to terminate or go through with a pregnancy, dealing with miscarriage, or a difficult time after an abortion.

In your sessions here with us, our job is to help you talk about what is important to each of you. We never take sides. We will be here to help you understand what you wish to communicate, and to help you listen to each other, so that you can find the best solution together. Many different reactions and emotions may arise during such a session, which is normal and something we often encounter.

For some, it may help to talk things over with a partner, friends or family. Others may find a neutral professional such as Amathea more helpful.

Do you need someone to talk to?
At Amathea, you will meet healthcare professionals with extensive experience in counselling after an abortion. We are a healthcare service, have a duty of confidentiality, and can help you in your situation and in making your decision. You may come alone or together with your partner or co-parent.

All of our services are free of charge. We offer sessions in Norwegian and English. We can also book interpreters for other languages. A session here lasts about an hour, and you can talk with us on video, by phone, or at one of our offices. You decide how many sessions you need, and we will schedule these together.
